Drink Like There's No Tomorrow

Doesn't this look good?

OMFG! So Frickin' Yummy

I don't know what it is about this color, but most of the recipes I've seen in this shade aren't even tomato products! Look what we have here... more red velvet!!!

Week 5: Chili Pepper (Spice Up Your Life)

So this past weekend, I danced hard, laughed more, and partied like a rock star... I can't believe I just quoted Big Time Rush... Anyways this week's color was partially inspired by the Song that will haunt me for the rest of the semester (in video form)... A few many cocktails hued Ochre left me kind of way too happy and I started singing and dancing to pop music much to the amusement of my friends. One of the songs really clicked (and caused my neck to still ache 48 hours later)... Spice Up Your Life is a classic guilty pleasure...

And so is this week's color

A Little Optimism to Go with Our Sunny New Color!

Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. ~John Ruskin

To be interested in the changing seasons is a happier state of mind than to be hopelessly in love with spring. ~George Santayana

Week 4: Ochre (Sunny Skies... and Icy Streets?)

Looks like New England and Canada are both in store for more snow... Who knew? Amidst all of the drab grays and dull whites, its time to bring a little life to the very monochromatic outdoors... That's where my dear Canadian Beauty's Coach bag comes in...

May I present you our next color:

Ochre!!!

We know its quite similar to Week 1's color of Curry, but this color is quite different...

P.S. To our only follower, Happy Birthday Ka$ia!

Coach 2010 Kristin

Iwas a huge fan of Coach until the Poppy line came out and the company started gearing towards a more younger market. For me, the je ne sais quoi that makes coach so classic was gone. Then, coach came out with the kristin line in 2010. I fell in love instantaneously. In fact, I had received a 25% preferred customer coupon and bought TWO kristin bags. The main colours were yellow, peach, and turquoise!!

I bought these two beauties. I wanted the turquoise hobo, but I thought it was overkill and would be potentially a hard colour to match, so I opted for the smaller leather bag, which has credit card slots!! And I bought the cheery yellow hobo! I love them both! I get so many compliments everytime I'm wearing them!

Blue Curacao

this one is really pretty so here it is

Blue Moon recipe

1 cup crushed ice
1/4 cup vodka
1/4 cup blue curaçao
1/4 cup whipping cream
2 tablespoons vanilla-flavored syrup (such as Torani)
2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
1 tablespoon Cointreau or other orange-flavored liqueur

Preparation
In a blender, combine all ingredients and whirl until smooth. Pour into four martini glasses (4 oz.) and garnish the rim of each glass with a slice of orange.

Blue Curacao is actually a liquor... here's a whole bunch more cocktails

Here's some of the more interesting ones for the second source...

Bloody Smurf Jizz recipe
3/4 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
3/4 oz grenadine syrup
1 tsp Bailey's® Irish cream
Sprite® soda to taste

Chill the grenadine. Pour the blue curacao into a champagne flute. Add the sprite to taste. Slowly pour the grenadine into the glass in order for it to sink. Add the Bailey's irish cream with a teaspoon slowly in the glass to allow it to float, and serve.

Serve in: Champagne Flute

Blue Sky recipe
1 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
6 oz milk

Pour both ingredients into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes. Shake well, strain into a highball glass almost filled with ice cubes, and serve.

4% (8 proof)
Serve in: Highball Glass

In the midst of winter, I found within me an invincible summer.

(Quote by Albert Camus)
Another one from J.Crew (this is not a good pattern haha!)

As you can tell, I'm dreaming of summer right now. I love this easy going look - it is minimalistic with a kickass colour combination. I wear these colours together more often than I care to admit.

In the winter, I would pair this with a cord skirt in the same khaki colour and tights and a cardigan in gray, and a long vintage key necklace.

PS. The silk pocket cami is sold online or through catalogue only and is available in petites! I'm about to put an order through myself!

Malibu Getaway

I made my dorm beach themed... while these aren't the best pictures, turquoise and teal find themselves throughout the space. It's not the greatest, but it got the job done. The snowflakes are from our holiday party.

Yes that pillow in the middle has sequins... We also have colorful ornaments running down our hallway. I'll post more pictures eventually. Mixing colors is important. Having things too matchy matchy makes it look you got it from a store, while coordinating colors, patterns, and textures gives a creative and warm, as well as put together effect.

TURQUOiSE HAVEN

THIS is my room inspiration.
I just thought I'd share this. What makes this so me (my personality) is the branches used. The christmas lights used just make the room so welcoming and feel just like home. Not to mention my favourite colour on the walls!

I'm going to try to apply this colour scheme (turquoise + brown) to my room. I just had dark brown hard wood floors put in, so it won't be hard! Pictures to follow...when my room is done!

Aren't these adorable? Sure our color isn't there front and center, but it is pretty snazzy! The lanterns are more of our theme... don't you suddenly feel inspired?

Trendy Decor, Discount Prices

Over the summer I was in the search of dishes for my apartment. I wish sick of using ceramic and stoneware. They were simply too heavy when it came to packing. So I went to my local target and found a pretty cool set. It was a bit of a floral but still masculine... kind of timeless despite the plates and bowls being square. The pieces were between 1-7 a piece. I started with a few salad plates and bowls and by the end of the summer I added more plates, bowls, and a tray at steals!

Target is a great place for people with a college budget that want more than the standard neon color dinnerware. My set is being discontinued but Target always has something new. If you are patient and don't mind visiting more than one store, you don't have to pay full retail and can get the quantity you want.

The tray picture here is available for under $5 on Target if you don't mind melamine. I personally find it durable and the perfect weight for college life and dining during the summer.

Dear turquoise, I love you.

Blue Curacao is literally my FAVOURITE colour and I'm so excited to share my love for turquoise!

One of the reasons I chose this colour is because this is going to be one of the big colours for spring 2011, in fashion and design!

Here are some outfits from the runway: Fendi, H&M, Cynthia Steffe, DKNY, and Costume National.

Which one of the these is your favourite?

I'm not a Crab?

According to one astrologer, we should be counting the 13th sign in the zodiac. Ophiuchus falls in between Scorpio and Sagittarius. Unfortunately, with the moon's pull on the Earth, the signs are a month off. This was already obvious with the season changes. January, April, July, and October tend to be when we notice the big temperature differences.

The new proposed days are:

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11
Pisces: March 11-April 18
Aries: April 18-May 13
Taurus: May 13-June 21
Gemini: June 21-July 20
Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23-Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20

Adding a 13th sign robs Scorpio of all but six of its days.

However one site does mention that we don't have to change our signs.

"Well, strike that, you don't get to switch your sign. At least reader StarJack says so: "The stars are markers that drift, but our main points of reference are not directly the stars. They are the equinoxes (both spring and vernal) and the solstices which altogether make the four cardinal points of the zodiac which in turn determine the signs. The stars help us locate those points which define the SIGNS of the Zodiac which remain constant in relation to the equinox point. The CONSTELLATIONS do move about and we take that into consideration when locating planets."

Clouds of Lemon

This week's recipe for "Cloud Dancer" harkens back to last weeks color as well. This lemony goodness is way too yummy to keep to myself. The wisps of white are brought together with toasted brown and sunny yellow to create an irresistible desert.

Winter White

This one is inspired by the piles of snow in my front yard.

Here's another pick from...you guessed it, J.Crew (I promise my entire wardrobe is not J.Crew...though I certainly wish it was).

I think everyone needs a simple white dress. You can dress it up or down easily and it's a whole lot more fresh than the little black dress.

Why this outfit works:
2 words - coordinated neutrals

You can see it in the detail. The beige accents the brown belt and the brown striping on the cardigan is genius.

Pairing the oxfords with the dress just adds more interest and personality into the outfit. I think that's what essentially makes this outfit what it is. A pair of pumps would have just been boring!

To make this more weather appropriate, I would pair this with nude or gray tights and add cognac knee high or mid length boots. And with a burberry nova check scarf, I'd be ready to face the winter winds.

What do you think?

Keep those Resolutions!

Here's a figure friendly way to spice up oatmeal! I saw this on another blog and just had to share it all with you!

Pumpkin Oatmeal
Courtesy of Tracey's Culinary Adventures who adapted it from Aarti Sequeira (via Food Network)

1 (14-oz) can pumpkin puree
2 cups water
2 cups milk (or water, if you prefer)
2 tablespoons raisins (plus extra for serving, if desired)
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
3/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (or substitute w/ a combo of cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg)
2 cups oats (I used Quaker old-fashioned)
maple syrup or honey (for serving, optional)
dried cranberries (for serving, optional)

Add the pumpkin puree, milk, water, raisins, salt and pumpkin pie spice to a large saucepan. Set over high heat and bring to a boil. Add the oats to the pan and lower the heat to medium. Cook, according to the instructions included with your oats, stirring often, until the grains have absorbed the liquid and are tender. My old-fashioned oats took about 15 minutes to cook completely.

Serve garnished with additional raisins or dried cranberries, or drizzle with maple syrup or honey.

Wilde about Citrine!

Citrine has always been one of my favourite gemstones and these earrings, I will definitely take. Olivia Wilde accessorized a gold sequin Pucci gown with citrine earrings by Tiffany & Co. designer Jean Schlumberger at the LA premiere of Tron. She looks like a goddess.

Would you like a spot of tea Lucky Artemis?

In keeping with the curry theme... here's a hot little kettle

It's very pretty but also symbolizes the bond between a mother and child. I may be a dude, but I have a sentimental moment every now and then. Some people may simply see it as a dragon themed teapot, but it makes a great gift for a mom that is a fellow tea lover.

If you want something a little more traditional here's another option:

This tea pot mixes a loud color with a traditional form factor. It's very trendy but also timeless. The color is not for the faint of heart, but it will spice up anyone's kitchen! The bright yellow is matched by a classic shape. It pairs timelessness with a modern flair, much like the mellow yellow post.

Yellow is a difficult color to style in any shade. Styling is about layering different shades and textures together to form a cohesive look. Afraid to have a bright yellow kitchen? Pair white cabinets with wood floors and yellow curtains and/ or accents like either of the tea pots mentioned here. Complimentary colors like shades of blue can also help to tone it down.

as seen on fredflare

Mellow Yellow

Hey all - I'm featuring a bit of fashion for you today! I'm a huge fan of J Crew - their styles are classic, effortless, cool and always in style! (How DO they do that?!)

I'm loving the wool peacoat in the yellow tone (which is the theme for this week) paired with khaki. I just love wearing yellow, no matter what the shade, but it does tend to stand out a bit more in the winter. I have epic love for knit tights for obvious reasons. I can easily see myself wearing this or a variation of this, come spring time! Come on J Crew, why don't you have a store in Canada yet?! We're not even a foreign country!

I really just want to be a warm yellow light that pours over everyone I love.- Conor Oberst

Week 1: Curry (Recipe)

As we have said before, we will be picking a different theme color for the posts we make every week. The first color of the week is (Lemon) Curry!

A lot of the required ingredients are pretty easy to come by or swap out. When I made it the first time, I couldn't find curry powder I ended up using some sage instead. The options are limitless. I do however suggest low sodium soy sauce when using dijon mustard.

I suscribe to the school of guesstimating so here are the approximate amounts of the ingredients I use each time I make it. I've made it a few times so I know how to eyeball it. Sometimes you will need to add a little more as the marinade does not thicken as nicely when you use Honey Dijon mustard in place of honey and Dijon mustard.

Adapted from Baked Bree's "Kelly's Overnight Chicken"
4 Tablespoons Honey Dijon mustard (I prefer Jack Daniel's; you can also use Dijon mustard and honey, but I opted not to do that because I don't use it for anything else)<
2 Tablespoon curry powder (or any other seasoning, sage works particularly well with the mustard)
4 oz low sodium soy sauce
2 lbs chicken tenderloin (using tenders will speed up the prepping and cooking)

Mix together the mustard, soy sauce, and curry powder.
Cut up the chicken into 1 to 2 inch sized pieces.
Put the chicken and marinade in a plastic bag and marinate overnight.
The next day, put the chicken and the marinade in a pan and bake in a 400 degree oven for 22-24 minutes.
